Marcus Juan was recently chosen as the Student of the Month at 10th Planet Redlands. We had a chance to sit down and chat with him about his goals and aspirations.
On Schooling:
Hi I’m Marcus Juan and I’m in the 7th grade. My favorite subject in school is Math, but I’m interested in other subjects too. I recently got accepted to the Rochford Scholar College Access Program. If I continue with the program throughout my school years, when it comes time for college, the program will offer a scholarship to the University of Redlands.
On Jiu Jitsu:
I’ve been training jiu jitsu for 2.5 months. I’ve been at 10th Planet Redlands since the opening day. I have to say, my favorite technique is the armbar from closed guard, although mounted armbars are cool too!
I have to thank my dad for getting me into jiu jitsu. He’s very helpful, and we get to drill a lot together.
Outside of Jiu Jitsu:
Other than jiu jitsu, I play shortstop in Pony League Baseball. In the future I want to explore becoming an officer in the K-9 unit.
Overall, jiu jitsu is good to learn. It’s something totally new. It gives you confidence in knowing you can do different things. I feel confident knowing I can defend myself.
Before I go, I want to give a shoutout to my Mom and Dad, and my friends at the gym. See you soon.
